Rednitz at Georgensgmuend

The Rednitz is the 46 km long left or southern source river of the Regnitz in Franconia.

River

The river originates in Georgensgmuend to 342 m above sea level. NN by the union of Franconian and Swabian Rezat.

From there, the Rednitz flows northward over Roth, Büchenbach Rednitzhembach, Penzendorf, Schwabach, stone, Nuremberg, Obersasbach and Fuerth to Fürth in order (even conceptually ) to unite north-west of the old town with the coming from the east Pegnitz to Regnitz.

Environment

The Rednitztal is one of the few since the Middle Ages unchanged valley floors franc. Minted is the valley area of shore accompanying woody plants, some of riparian forests. The valley area itself consists largely of so-called Wässerwiesen. These are maintained by farmers in water cooperatives through a narrow channel and grave system for centuries. By artificially irrigation succeed three grass cuts per year.

Through this management rare birds, fish, reptiles and insects have their home. The Bavarian Ministry of the Environment has therefore reported to the European Union in the fall of 2004, the Rednitztal of the A6 in the south to stone as particularly worthy of protection Natura 2000 conservation area.

Water quality

The water quality has improved in recent decades. Lag the water quality class 1976 or between II -III ( critically polluted ) and III ( very dirty ), the burden downgraded the Working Group Water Protection Upper Regnitz 2001 north of Roth in Class II ( moderately polluted ) or south of it loaded as critical.

Inflows

Among the tributaries of the Rednitz include ( downriver considered, kilometer data from estuary to source):

Economic Importance

North of Schwabach were since the Middle Ages and until the end of the 19th century, numerous wooden waterwheels in operation, which served to irrigate the surrounding fields (see also Regnitz ).

The water of the Rednitz feeds the cooling towers of a major power plant Nuremberg Franken I.

Sporting importance

At a portion of the Rothenburgerstraße towards Fürth- Weikershof a hiking and biking trail has been created in recent years to be built in the coming years into a larger network.

At the junction of the river with the major regional road link, the remote forwarder, a small barrage, one level house and a measuring point for water quality was created by the Water Board in 2004.

This level has the side effect that the canoe slalom course of it for their canoe club SG has won in 1883 under the railway bridge in the picture considerably more attractive and now is one of the most challenging tracks for the Bavarian paddlers offspring. Since 1983, the Bavarian Championships students will be hosted there at Fürth canoe slalom.
