Reeve (England)

Greve (or Grebe, Grefe, Gräffe; gerefa to the official title of Old English, Modern English reeve, along with high - reeve, Hogrefe ) was in some German-speaking areas, the post of village management board, mayor or reeve.

The Greve was subordinate to the Court gentlemen of their parent ministry. The name is derived from the Old High German " Gravio ," the central German " grebe " and the Middle Low German " greve ". Greve or Grebe can also be a variant of the professional title Count, which is derived from the Old High German " Gravo ".

The word is with the French " le greffe " ( = office, secretary) and " le greffier " ( registrar ) used, as with the still commonly used today in Jersey and Guernsey " greffier " ( = office clerk ).
