Refosco

Refosco is an old native red grape variety that is grown primarily in the Italian province of Friuli- Venezia Giulia and Istria. There are several varieties of the vine, is considered best the rotstielige Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. In his Italian growing areas is the Refosco Terrano sometimes called the Slovenian Littoral Refošk, on the Slovenian karst in Croatia and Teran. This roll distinction is quite important since the Karst fuller wines brings forth as the coastal region. The grape Mondeuse Savoyard may be identical with this vine. This is but denies at least from ampelographers Pierre Galet.

The vine can deliver outstanding wines of intense color and great expressiveness, but often arise from qualitatively mediocre table wine. Ideally, the wines undergo malolactic fermentation to soften the pronounced acidity of the wine. The best wines from this grape are vinified in the eastern hills of Friuli, and the Slovenian Karst and Terra Rossa soils in Istria.

Also in California (→ Viticulture in California ) and Australia ( → Viticulture in Australia) are planted some wineries with sticks this Rebfamilie.
