Regency TR-1

The Regency TR-1 was the first commercial transistor radio in the world. It was manufactured by Industrial Development Engineering Associates (IDEA ) of Indianapolis on behalf of Texas Instruments and was a superheterodyne receiver circuitry (transistor Super) for the AM medium wave. The Regency TR-1 was equipped with four germanium transistors and a ferrite rod antenna, and available in many colors like green, lavender blue, mother of pearl, red or white.

On October 18, 1954 with the slogan " See it! Hear It! " Get it announced, the radio went in November 1954 - in time for Christmas - in the sale. Its price was $ 49.95, adjusted for inflation, this represents today 450 U.S. dollars. The company sold about 150,000 units.

The device was powered by a 22.5 volt battery, and had a high power consumption.
