Reggatta de Blanc is the second studio album by The Police. It was released in October 1979 by A & M Records. The album reached number one on the charts in the UK and in Australia, the USA 25th place in 1980 the band won the title track for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. The magazine Rolling Stone placed the album at number 369 of his 500 best albums of all time.

Formation

Unlike the subsequent album The Police were able to go to the shooting without time pressure. The album was recorded in a total of four weeks recording time, but they were spread out over several months. Stewart Copeland told the studio sessions, the band did not even rehearsed:

" We just went into the studio and said, 'Right, who's got the first song? ' We had not even rehearsed them before we went in. "

The band went with a relatively small budget of the shots - even though the record company A & M Records larger would have approved - which was covered by their profits through the sale of Outlandos d' Amour. Thus they remained relatively independent.

As the album title a pseudo- French translation of White Reggae was chosen.

Reception

Wrote Greg Prato of the website Allmusic.com, through constant touring the reggae -rock band had been brought to perfection. The album was polished production technology and respect of songwriting sophisticated than its predecessor. In addition, two hit singles were included. He missed three out of five stars.
