Regional council (Israel)

Regional Associations ( מועצה אזורית, Mo'atza Azorit ) are, in addition to the municipalities and local governments, one of the three types of local government in Israel.

General

Task for a regional management is a series of villages in rural areas of the administration. Regional governments represented at the 3-54 villages which are spread usually over a relatively large area, but are geographically close to each other.

A village within a regional administration does not exceed usually the population of 2000 and is managed by a local committee. This committee is sending delegates to the regional administration in proportion to the population of the town and subject to an Index which is determined prior to each election. Villages without a management committee not send delegates, but enter into agreements directly with the regional administration. MPs represented settlements are either appointed directly or determined by a choice. The majority of the settlements of regional administration are kibbutzim and moshav.

2003, there were 53 regional associations in Israel.
