Regionalverkehr Mittelland

The Regional Mittelland (RM ) is a former railway company in Switzerland with headquarters in Burgdorf, Canton Bern. The RM possessed a route length of 154 km and wrong in the cantons of Bern, Solothurn and Lucerne. The RM was formed in 1997 from the merger of Emmental- Burgdorf- Thun railway ( EBT), the United Huttwil trains (VHB ) and the Solothurn -Münster -Bahn (SMB). The Regional Mittelland AG was merged with BLS Lötschberg Railway to the new BLS AG in June 2006, the new company has been operational since 27 June 2006.

On 6 June 2000 joined in Hüswil because of a switch incorrectly identified a RBDe 4/4 II shuttle in a Schotterzug. The accident cost a railway worker 's life. The driver of the commuter train and three other people were injured. The station Hüswil was equipped only with hand switches without signal-dependent driving roads. Thus, the switch could still be folded after opening the entry signal.

The freight business of RM was spun at 5 January, 2004 in the Crossrail Ltd, this company was sold on January 1, 2006 to the investment company Babcock & Brown ( B & B).

With 581 employees ( as of 2002) was generated by the RM in passenger SFr 18.3 million and 8.27 million travelers carried thereby.

In freight transport, the conversion was 11.7 million SFr. Primarily, it was the block train traffic for major clients such as the steel Gerlafingen in Gerlafingen, the paper mill M- Real in Biberist and Kronospan AG in Menznau. The single wagonload traffic ( EWLV ) is completely operated since the timetable change in December 2004 by the SBB. Since 2003 was the crane terminal " Cargodrome Wiler " in operation, UCT shuttle were performed ( Unaccompanied intermodal traffic) to Duisburg and Domodossola. With regard to the merger with the BLS Cargodrome and Crossrail AG were sold at the beginning of 2006 to the Australian investment company Babcock & Brown.
