Regions of Togo

The West African state of Togo is divided into five regions ( régions, singular région ), which are further divided into 30 prefectures and commune together.

History

The division into regions exist so since 1970. Early 50s was still French Togo divided into 6 " circumscriptions ", 1955, these were dissolved in the four regions of Centre, Maritime, Plateaux and Savanes, 1966 abolished as administrative units and in 1970 re-introduced. He was still the last change to this classification, Kara Region was formed in 1981 from parts of the regions Centre and Savanes.
