Template: Infobox city in Portugal / Maintenance / Web page is blank Reguengos de Monsaraz is a Portuguese city ( Cidade ) in the region of Alentejo. In particular, for its wines and the eponymous historic site Monsaraz the county seat is known.

History

Megalithic and other finds indicate a prehistoric settlement, such as the menhir menhir Bulhoa or do Outeiro. The Cromlech of Xerez is not in its original condition and was recently laid in connection with the construction of the Alqueva reservoir. The Antas of Poco as Gateira, however, are of some importance.

The Arabic since 711 Location Monsaraz was conquered during the Reconquista by Geraldo Sem Pavor. 1276 Monsaraz received first town rights. The circle of Reguengos de Monsaraz was created until 1838, by replacing the previous county seat of Monsaraz here. Reguengo was a former name of the king directly taxable administrative circle. Reguengos de Monsaraz was raised in 1840 Vila ( town with administrative privileges).

Since 2004 Reguengos de Monsaraz is a city ( Cidade ).

Sports

The Soccer Team Atlético SC Reguengos founded in 1929, plays its home games at the 1000 -seat Campo Virgilio Durão from. The club rose after the 2008/2009 season in the II Divisão on, today's Campeonato Nacional de Seniores (Third League ). After a descent and the restructuring of the third and fourth nationwide leagues in the newly created Second Division of Atlético SC today plays in the top division of the District Association to the resurgence. (As of season 2013/14 )

Regional also is the basketball section of the club is important.
