Reichenbach Castle

The Reichenbach Castle is a Baroque castle by the river in the municipality Zollikofen, Canton Bern, Switzerland.

It was in 1688, built for Beat Fischer, the founder of Bern's postal system instead of a medieval castle whose origins probably date back to a Roman river fort, which was the castrum on the narrow peninsula in conjunction.

The rule of Reichenbach with their fairy tales, forests, waters and inhabited localities existed until 1830 and is today's municipality Zollikofen identical. It was founded in the early 14th century by Rudolf von Erlach, the victor at the Battle of Laupen. This was followed by several changes of ownership.

From the period from 1688 onwards comes the Baroque painting of the courtroom. The stucco decorations of the staircase and upstairs were created during an extension 1719. Around this time, a brewery was built to refresh the majority Bavarian postal servants north of the castle. 1890 went through this with the entire palace complex built by the family of fishermen in the Bavarian brewmaster Joseph Hofweber, two years later, the possessions of the Bavarian brewery acquired in Interlaken, today Rugenbräu AG. After his death in 1909, the J. Hofweber & Cie was. Founded AG, the owner of the castle is still and the former brewery building has its headquarters.

In the building of also erected around 1719 former orangery of the castle today the castle Reichenbach restaurant is housed. There is also the right bank pier of the Reichenbach- ferry that connects Zollikofen with the narrow peninsula.
