Reichsfilmdramaturg

With the play of light Act of February 16, 1934, led by the Joseph Goebbels Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda was placed under an empire movie script editor. The task of the Reich Film playwrights consisted of the preliminary planned film productions.

While the film laboratory undertook a censorship of the already wacky films, the Reich Film dramaturg should prevent unpopular movies ever created. The filming for a movie could begin therefore always only after film design, manuscript and screenplay had been approved by the Reich Film playwrights. The Reich film dramaturge also prevented adaptations of works politically unpopular writer.

This preliminary test was quite in accordance with the economic interests of the film industry, because it made for the producers not only the first step to obtaining a favorable loan from the Film Credit Bank GmbH, but protected them as a rule, before later censorship damage.

The Reich Film playwrights were successively:

  • Willi Krause ( as a writer by the name of Peter Hagen known), since the beginning of February 1934
  • Hans -Jürgen Nierentz (1936-1937)
  • Fritz Hippler
  • Carl- Dieter von Reich Master (up to 1943)
  • Kurt Frowein
  • Ewald von Demandowsky
