The Maighelserrhein with the Romansh name Rein da Maighels is one of the main sources of the Rhine ( cf. Rheinquelle ) and empties into the net as Curnera. The two rivers are dammed at the local site through the Lai da Curnera; the power plants are power plants Anterior Rhine.

Net since Maighels rises at the Piz Ravetsch from reaching Maighels glacier (Romansh Glatscher because Maighels ) near the border with the Grisons Canton Ticino and Canton of Uri. It first flows north through the Val Maighels to then break through to the east by the Val Platta mentioned incision between Piz and Piz Cavradi Piogn Crap Val Curnera. The original length was 4.5 kilometers.

It is assumed that the stream not previously flowed into the Val Curnera but straight flowed to the north where the Rein da Tuma drains the valley.
