Reinberg Lime

The Reinsberger Linde is an approximately 1000 year old lime tree at the village church in Reinberg in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

The age of the designated as a natural monument Linde is estimated to be about 1000 years, so that the lime would be much older than the nearby historic village church. The tree has a height of about 19 meters and a crown diameter of about 17 meters. The trunk circumference of 1.30 meters in height 10.80 meters.

After a Senate resolution previously buried in the church before the altar preachers were buried under the linden tree from 1782. The Linde was mentioned in 1795 in the travel records of Johann Friedrich Zöllner. He wrote: " At half way we stopped in the village Reinberg in to a thick -is curiosity; this is a lime tree in the churchyard, which has 37 ½ feet in circumference below the trunk, and greens just interiorly as both heart. Namely, it is completely eroded, and the bark has been there, where it is cracked, not only curved inward, but also driven young branches. It forms neat two Cabinets, in each of which a number of people to be able to stop. " In 1796 to Wilhelm von Humboldt admired the mighty tree.
