Reiner Ganschow

Reiner Ganschow ( born June 22, 1945 in Rostock ) is a German handball coach and former handball player.

The 1.87 meter tall Ganschow played for SC Empor Rostock. He began his athletic career in athletics and handball. In 1964 he was East German youth champion in the shot put and discus as well as title holder with the SC Empor Rostock in the halls and field handball.

He was a member of the national handball team of the GDR. With the national team, he played at the Olympics in 1972, he was in the squad for the World Cup ( World Cup ) in 1967 and the 1970 World Cup and the 1974 World Cup; 1970 and 1974 he was vice-champion in each case. With 206 international matches Ganschow is one of the record holders in the German handball, he scoring 754 goals.

As a coach, he was active from the late 1970s in Algeria and Tunisia for the national teams. From 1985 to 1989 he coached the SC Empor Rostock and reached in this period, two East German league titles and five fdgb Cup victories. Later he stood until 1994 when GW / SYC Rostock under contract, from where he moved to the Grasshoppers Zurich in January 1994. In 1996, he first coached the junior cadets Schaffhausen, then a year, the NLA - Team, then by 2004 the juniors; to 2005, he coached the third league team of cadets.

Reiner Ganschow worked as a high school physical education teacher at the German University of Physical Culture in Leipzig and was in Switzerland and worked as a physical education teacher in Effretikon and in Schaffhausen. He is married to the former water vaulter Christine Grundmann; two sons Ulf Ganschow and Heiko Ganschow also played handball.
