Reiner Merkel

Reiner Merkel ( born January 28, 1952 in Wetzlar, † February 6, 2007 in France ) was a German manager and Chef of the dpa. He has made the Bildfunk popular in Germany.

Life

Reiner Merkel studied at the Justus -Liebig- University of Giessen. After working among others at the National Sports Federation Hesse 1988 he joined the Deutsche Presse-Agentur ( dpa ), where he was head of the photo services. He played a major role in the construction of the dpa daughters "global media services " and " PR Newswire ". Since 2002 he was responsible for the construction of the image - platform " Picture Alliance ", a platform of six major stock agencies akg-images, photo agency Huber, dpa photo services, kpa photo archive, and Okapia Picture Press.

Together with the National Olympic Committee for Germany and the Organizing Committee (OC ) of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he initiated the online picture service of both the Olympics and the World Cup in Germany.

Merkel, who lived in Friedrichsdorf, also was active as a photographic artist and presented his large-scale works, mostly from Burano on exhibitions. He was married and had two children; He died unexpectedly while skiing in the French Alps.
