Reinfeld, Schleswig-Holstein

Reinfeld ( Holstein) is a city in Stormarn (Schleswig -Holstein) between Bad Oldesloe and Lübeck. She is a nationally recognized resort and known as carp city. Reinfeld is part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region.

Geography

History

Clean box foundation dates back to the year 1186, when at the instigation of Count Adolf III. Schauenburg Cistercian monks settled in the monastery Loccum here and the monastery founded Reynevelde. The monks put on numerous ponds, which they used for carp breeding. However, the time up to 60 carp ponds were not sufficient to meet the demand for fish of the monastery, so that additionally had larger amounts of fish from Lübeck to be bought because the Cistercians were allowed to eat meat. The monastery developed thanks to the foresight of its abbots rapidly becoming one of the richest and most respected in Northern Germany with extensive land holdings ranging in the Baltic States and valuable investments in the Saline Lüneburg. This changed due to the secularization during the Reformation. 1581 the monastery passed to Duke Johann the Younger of Plön. After the monastery was demolished in the 16th century, a royal castle was built on the same spot, in the period 1599-1604. It served the Duke divided the remains of the monastery complex as building material. The handsome church was in 1635 when a dam break of the jammed Lord pond completely destroyed. In their place was a much smaller built flood-proof 1636 on the Eichberg. Since John's death in 1622 Reinfeld belonged to the small Duchy of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Plön, which comprised in the period from 1676 to 1729 also Nordalsen and parts of Ærø ( Norburg - Plon ). When the Ploen line of dukes became extinct in 1761, the duchy fell to King Frederick V of Denmark. The Reinsfelder castle was demolished in 1775, the remaining stones found use for the construction of an administrative building, which was used as a forestry office. In the years 1762-1867 Reinfeld was under Danish rule. Erected in 1839 the old school building on the site of the former castle dates from this period.

On 1 August 1865, railway operations of the Lübeck- Büchener railroad was taken after since 1863 a railway line from Hamburg was built over Bad Oldesloe to Lübeck. The then built station building still exists today.

Since the summer of 2003, the Stormarn and thus Reinfeld belongs to the area of the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV ) in which all public transport modes operate at standard rates.
