Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling

Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling ( born May 9, 1904 in Hannover, † December 9, 1985 in Berlin) was a German composer.

Life and work

He was born the son of a chemical factory. From 1922 he studied music in Munich and Cologne - interrupted by several study trips to Italy. From 1927 to 1929 he was a pupil of the composer Heinrich Kaminski, who also taught Carl Orff. From 1938 taught Schwarz-Schilling at the Berlin Academy of Music. His orchestral, chamber, organ and choral music as well as his solo songs are often inspired spiritually and develop a musical language that follows the compositions Kaminski and Johann Sebastian Bach. One of his major works is the cantata "The Message " ( 1979-1982 ).

Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling was married to the Polish-Jewish pianist Dusza of Hakrid, whom he met as a fellow student at his mentor Heinrich Kaminski. After a courageous registrar had successfully manipulated in the Bavarian Kochel am See their papers, the family lived in the Third Reich permanently in extreme danger and was under constant Gestapo interrogations. Schwarz-Schilling is a professor at the Musikhochschule in Berlin never became a party member, and remained faithful to his human and political beliefs. His older brother Baldwin Black was forced to emigrate to the United States because of its non - Aryan wife in 1933. It was not until almost 20 years after Reinhard Schwarz-Schilling's death was told his son, Christian Schwarz -Schilling, former Federal Minister and High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, during inquiries on the spot in Poland from the true origin of his mother.

Reinhard Schwarz - Schilling was buried in the St. Matthias Cemetery in Berlin -Tempelhof.
