Reinhard Sebastian Zimmermann

Reinhard Sebastian Zimmermann ( born January 9, 1815 in Hagnau, † November 16, 1893 in Munich) was a German painter.

Life

Zimmermann completed a commercial apprenticeship and then worked as a merchant's assistant in the shop of his cousin in Meersburg one. In Meersburg, he also started the first time, to deal with the art of portraiture. In 1837 he went for professional reasons to Freiburg im Breisgau, where he deepened his knowledge of paint.

From 1840 to 1842 Zimmermann studied at the Art Academy in Munich, followed by a period of study in Paris and traveling to London and Brussels. On his return to Munich in 1847, he actively participated in the bourgeois revolution of 1848. Meanwhile, carpenter artistic reputation was so well established that he was in Munich jury member at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition in 1854. In general, German Art Exhibition in Cologne in 1861 he was awarded a gold medal for his work. A year later he was appointed court painter by Baden Grand Duke Friedrich I.. It was followed by further study trips to Venice and Paris. In 1873 he was awarded at the International Exhibition at the Royal Albert Hall in London a bronze medal. A year later he was sent to Paris and Versailles from the Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden for six weeks to study abroad. Later followed by further study in Italy.

1878 carpenter built a small villa, his summer house, the so-called "Painter Häusle " in the lake road in his birthplace Hagnau.

In 1884 he was awarded the Knight's Cross, First Class of the Order of Zähringerplatz lions.
