Reinhardtsdorf Sandstone

Reinhardt villages sandstone, also called upper or main square sandstone is broken in the vicinity of the place Reinhardt village near Pirna in the district of Saxon Switzerland & Eastern Ore Mountains in Saxony. It is the so-called main sandstone of the Elbe Sandstone Rocks, which originated in the Middle Turonian. There in 2008, a quarry who wins this sandstone.

Rock description and occurrence

This sandstone is a white, off-white to yellowish- gray, pebbly bound Elbsandstone. It is fine to medium grained and fossil remains are typical phenomenon in this natural stone as well as occasional gross. The yellow color is caused by iron compounds of Limonitkomplexes. Pass the steep cliffs of the Saxon Switzerland, as the King Stone, the Bastion, the lily stone and the Prebischtor From the main sandstone of Elbsandsteinvorkommens. The thickness of this sandstone occurrence rarely drops below 80 meters and 160 meters partially met. The stone was mined in Posta, Königstein (Lower Church Leitener quarries ), Wehlen, church Leithe, Schandau, Postelwitz, Porsdorf, Schoena ( pond quarries ) in the Elbe Valley and in Liebethaler reason.

Use

It is used especially for facade cladding, solid constructions, molded cornices and window and door reveals, stone carvings.

The partial reconstruction of the new Brunswick Palace (2005-2007) was composed of this sand stone. The Zwinger Palace in Dresden, Albrecht Berg Castle and numerous buildings in Saxony have been built with this sandstone. He was installed as well as the Schwerin Castle, the old City Palace and other buildings in Berlin, such as the ground floor of the TU Berlin in Charlottenburg. The sandstone from Old Poste is installed in Berlin at the listed Bismarck Bridge ( 1891) in Hallensee.
