Reinhart Ahlrichs

Reinhart Ahlrichs (born 16 January 1940 in Göttingen ) is a German theoretical chemist.

Life and work

Ahlrichs studied physics at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich and at the Georg -August- University of Göttingen, where he received his diploma in 1965. In 1968 he received his PhD Werner A. Bingel ( 1922-2011 ).

From 1968-69 was Ahlrichs Researcher, or assistant, by Werner Kutzelnigg ( b. 1933 ) at the University of Göttingen.

As a post-doctoral fellow ( postdoctoral fellow ) at Clemens CJ Roothaan ( born 1918 ) worked Ahlrichs 1969 to 1970 at the University of Chicago.

After a period as a research assistant from 1970 to 1975 in Karlsruhe, Ahlrichs was since 1975 Professor of Theoretical Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and conducted a Chair at the Institute of Nanotechnology. His research was on the development and application of methods of quantum chemistry. His research group has developed, among other things, the program TURBOMOLE. In 2008 he became Professor Emeritus.
