Reinhold Roth ( born March 4, 1953 in the Official Zell, Baden- Württemberg ) is a German former motorcycle racer.

Career

Reinhold Roth graduated from training as a retail merchant and as an automobile mechanic. He then started in 1975 at the OMC Cup on a 125 cc Maico. In July 1976, he switched to a 250 cc Yamaha and won the last OMC - run of the season. The Institute of Sport and Sport Science at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg worked for Roth later a nutrition plan that measured the physical and psychological stress and also developed a training plan for fitness and concentration. The coordination of training and nutrition was scientifically monitored.

In 1977, he won twelve times, finished second place four times and won the OMC Cup in classes 250 and 500 cc, respectively on Yamaha. 1978 won Reinhold Roth, turn on Yamaha, at first the German Championship in the 250cc class before Toni Mang.

1979 Roth debuted at the Grand Prix of Nations in Misano, Italy in the Motorcycle World Championship. He finished eighth in the race of the 250cc class. A scaphoid fracture then led to the premature end of the season.

From 1980 he started in the team of Helmut Fath as a professional racing driver. After two top - ten finishes, he rushed at the Grand Prix of France at Paul Ricard for a seized piston at the end of the Mistral straight in the curve Signes and pulled to a six-fold tibia and fibula fracture. At the Grand Prix of Germany at the Nürburgring he broke his leg again.

1981 Roth became German Vice Champion. In the 1982 season he was after victories at Donington Park ( Great Britain), Assen (Netherlands) and Jarama (Spain ) European champion in the 250 cc class. The European title in the half-liter class he missed due to physical problems ( cramps in the forearms ) and a not very competitive bike. For DM- title in the class up to 500 cc of this year, it was enough, however.

In 1983, Roth started for the team Roman helmets Neu-Ulm, he became German champion in the 250 cc class. 1984 on the 500 - cc three- cylinder Honda he won several top - ten finishes at the World Championships and was superior to German champions. In 1987, Roth into the HB team of Dieter Stappert and was able to walk for the first time with a factory Honda in the race there. The machine was supervised by the Motorcycle Grand Prix mechanic Sepp Schlögl and his staff. Roth fought for the world title and won the Grand Prix of France in Le Mans his first world championship race. He lay in the championship for a long time in the lead and finished the season finally as Vice World Champion behind Toni Mang.

1988 rushed Roth at a non for the World Cup scoring invitational race and pulled a broken leg - so were his ambitions go to win the coveted world title for the first time. After an acceptable season, he was still WM- fifth. In the 1989 season he won two races and finished the year again as the runner-up, only beaten by Sito Pons.

On June 17, 1990, the Grand Prix of Yugoslavia was in Automotodrome Grobnik near Rijeka on the program. In an attempt to overtake the Australian Darren Milner, Reinhold Roth crashed hard. The leading trio, which existed alongside Roth from Helmut Bradl and Martin Wimmer, ran in the fight for first place on Milner, who was very slow because of the rain-soaked runway on the ideal line on the road. While Bradl and Wimmer were able to dodge, Roth went on unabated on Milner and fell. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and then lay six weeks in a coma. Reinhold Roth is permanent care after his awakening. He is cared for in his home office in cell by his wife Elfriede and a nursing team.
