Rejected Take-off

Rejected take-off rsp. Takeoff (short: RTO) - in German: rejected take-off - is a term which is mainly used in commercial aviation or in connection with commercial aircraft. Here, the start process is aborted before reaching the speed of decision and brought the aircraft with the help of hydraulic brakes, speed brakes and thrust reverser to a halt again.

For a variety of reasons, there are RTO:

  • Aircraft side: loss of control, engine fire, fatal system errors, etc., and
  • Airport each other: Statement by the controller, blocked web by accidentally rolled aircraft, etc.

RTO also refers to a setting for the automatic braking system of an aircraft. In this setting leads, with exceeding a speed of around 120 to 160 km / h and the immediate withdrawal of the thrust Hebbel, the automatic braking system on the brakes by. This serves to support the pilot, which besides activating the speed brake and reverse thrust, the airplane with the possible aircraft-side error ( ex.: asymmetric reverse thrust after engine failure ) has to keep on the track.
