Relanges

Relanges is a commune in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Neufchâteau, for Canton Darney and founded in 1997, Local Government Association, Pays de Saône et Madon.

Geography

The 215 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring Relanges municipality lies between Vittel and Darney, about 40 kilometers west of Epinal in the extreme southwest of Lorraine.

The district includes a portion of the hill country Monts Faucilles, the significant contours shows here. The site slopes from the running in the southwest-northeast direction of hills in an approximately 100 meters measured from stage. From the higher-lying area coming in the northwest, which extends to the near Meuse- Rhône watershed, the streams Ruisseau du Bois le Comte, Ruisseau de Bonneval and Ruisseau de Lichecourt have dug deep into the terrain, forming canyon like valleys. At the output of one of these canyons ( Gorges de Gabionne ) the settlement is Relanges. The three rivers flow independently in the upper Saône. More than half of the municipal area is covered by forests ( Forêt de Lignéville in the north and Forêt de Darney Domaniale in the south).

To Relanges part of two kilometers southwest of the core village hamlet of Lichecourt.

Neighboring communities of Relanges are Saint- Baslemont and Thuillières in the north, Senonges and Dombasle- devant -Darney in the northeast, Bonvillet and Darney in the southeast, Belmont- lès -Darney in the south, Nonville in the southwest and Provenchères -lès -Darney in the northwest.

History

Relanges belonged in the time of the Old Regime to the Bailiwick of Darney. In 1030 a priory of the abbey of Cluny was founded in Relanges. The monastery Relanges in 1725 by Pope Benedict XII. combined with the chapter Darney. The church, which dates from the 11th century, later became the parish church of the village.

The Romanesque Church of Our Lady (L' église Notre -Dame) was built in the 11th century. From this time the lower column of the porch, the gable of the facade and the basement walls of the north aisle are preserved today. From the 12th century come transept, tower and apse. After a fire in the 16th century, a new ship was built and renewed and increased the tower. In addition, a new south porch was added. The religious building is classified as a monument historique.

Next to the church is a Lavoir and two old wells are obtained in Relanges. Also a piece of rock with carved into the stone statues of the twelve apostles ( Belle Roche) in the forest above the village attracts many visitors. In the district Lichecourt is a castle from the 16th century, which was extended by a chapel and a gazebo in the 18th century.

In Relanges five farms and some craftsmen are located.

The nucleus is affected in the south of the department of road D 314 ( Darney - Contrexévillenear ) and to the east by the D 18 ( Darney - Vittel ).
