The Related Designs GmbH is a German development studio for computer games based in Mainz, and is known for the development of the Anno series of games. It is part of the Ubisoft Group.

History

Related Designs was founded in 1995 by Thomas Pottkämper, Burkhard Ratheiser, Thomas Stone and Jens Vielhaben. At first they concentrated mainly on the development of smaller games for the medium price segment, promotional games and online games. Later they developed for Data Becker the real-time strategy game America: No Peace Beyond the Line, which was released in 2000, with around 300,000 copies sold worldwide was a great success. Then with No Man's Land and Castle Strike followed by two more real-time strategy games.

In 2006, Anno 1701, the third part of the Anno series was created (more than 5.2 million copies sold worldwide). In 2007, Ubisoft by the acquisition of the German publisher Sunflowers its share of 30 % of related designs. In October 2007, The Curse of the Dragon, the add -on was followed for Anno 1701. In December 2008, the " Gold Edition " was composed of the main game Anno 1701 and the expansion pack The Curse of the Dragon, published. In June 2009, the fourth part series Part Anno 1404 was released. Venice: In February 2010, the add -on Anno 1404 was released.

On 17 November 2011 followed by Anno 2070, the next installment of the series, which set in contrast to the gambling in the past predecessors on a future scenario. On April 11, 2013 Ubisoft also bought the remaining 70 % of the shares and took over the studio now complete.
