Reliant Fox

Reliant Fox

The Reliant Fox is a small, four-wheeled van, the Reliant Motor Company in Tamworth ( England) produced from 1983 to 1990. The car had ³ a body made of fiberglass, a four-cylinder in-line engine made of aluminum with a displacement of 848 cm and a power of 40.5 bhp (30 kW) and a manual four-speed transmission. It was derived from the car model kitten.

The Fox has an interesting history. Reliant had technologies and constructions to various companies exported to various countries, including also MEBEA in Greece, the models and Robin TW9, but in this model we pursued the almost reverse strategy. In the late 1970s MEBEA developed a " passenger van", a design which was very popular in Greece because these vehicles were classified as commercial vehicles under the law and taxed accordingly low. MEBEA was only one of several manufacturers of such vehicles, other names were Namco engine Autokinitobiomihania Ellados, MAVA or Automeccanica. MEBEA who already built the Reliant Robin in license, the modified four-wheel frame of the kitten so that it could carry more payload and built on a prototype of a light commercial vehicle with GRP body on. For the series production MEBEA would, however, have to deal with the formalities of a type test, which developed in Greece for Cars - unlike for other types of vehicles - was very complicated. Therefore MEBEA what other reviewers Greek automakers had done did: You searched for a partner abroad, since the type approval in Greece was much easier to obtain for vehicles that had such an authorization already abroad. Of course, Reliant offered as a partner and the British company was also involved in the final development and approval of the original vehicle.

The car was sold from 1979 to 1983 in Greece under the name MEBEA Fox. 1983 but were the tax laws that favored such vehicles, as amended, were the sales figures and production was eventually discontinued after about 3,000 copies. But the vehicle has had a second life as Reliant 1983 recorded in the UK, the production of the vehicle as the unofficial successor of the model kitten. By 1990, approximately 600 pieces originated in the United Kingdom.

There is a " conservation organization" for small Reliant with four wheels, which is called Reliant Kitten Register.
