Religiosam vitam

Religiosam vitam is a papal bull of Pope Honorius III. , With whom he at December 22, 1216 the Rule of the Dominican confirmed or supplemented.

The Congregation of the Dominicans had founded in the years between 1215-1216 more convents in Rome, Paris and Bologna. The Order took over the Augustine rule, which goes back to St. Augustine. With the bull Religiosam vitam the lives of Dominicans were prescribed under this Rule and the General Chapter awarded the Choose laws and decision-making. The General Chapter had at specified intervals and at key locations, take place.

Following the recognition of the Order by the Bishop of Toulouse ( 1215) followed with the Bull, the papal confirmation, only a short time later, the Dominicans were given the privilege to preach ( Order of Preachers ) and an order for the preaching of the gospel.
