Remaufens

Remaufens (? Freiburg Patois Remôfin / i ) is a municipality in the district Veveyse ( German: Vivisbachbezirk ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.

Geography

Remaufens is located on 789 m above sea level. M., 8 km north-northeast of Vevey ( straight line ). The hamlet extends on a gently sloping hillside to the west across the lowlands of Tatrel and Broye, the southernmost tip of Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​5.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehochplateaus in the foothills near Châtel- Saint- Denis. The area is from east to west from the dale of Tatrel, a left Bach Broye, crosses. To the south of this stream reaches the communal land on the ridge of the Mont Vuarat, on the 887 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Remaufens is achieved. To the north the municipality extends over a slightly undulating upland, in the Bois de la Couta 871 m above sea level. M. culminates into the wooded valley of the upper Broye. This forms the northern border of Remaufens. From the municipality surface 1997 accounted for 5% on settlements, 26 % of forest and shrubs and 69% to agriculture.

Among Remaufens over the area numerous scattered individual farms. Neighboring communities of Remaufens are Châtel -Saint -Denis and Attalens in the Canton of Fribourg and Corsier -sur -Vevey and maracones in the canton of Vaud.

Population

With 973 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Remaufens one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the 94.8 % inhabitants are French-speaking, English-speaking and 1.3 % 1.1 % speak German (as of 2000). The population of Remaufens amounted in 1900 to 411 inhabitants. During the 20th century the population commuted to 1970 in the range 410-470 inhabitants. Since then, a significant population increase was recorded.

Economy

Remaufens was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Previously, several mills were operated by the water power of the Tatrel. Even today, animal husbandry and dairy farming and to a lesser extent agriculture an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including a factory which produces agricultural machinery. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Châtel -Saint -Denis and in the Vevey-Montreux region.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It is situated near the road from Châtel -Saint- Denis to Oron- la -Ville. The nearest links to the A12 motorway, which has been open since 1981 from Bern to Vevey throughout, located approximately 4 km from the town center. History

The area of Remaufens was probably inhabited since the Roman era. From the Merovingian period several stone slab tombs date. The first written mention of the village in the 13th century under the name Romulfens. Later, the names Remofens appeared Remoufens ( 1309), Remuffens ( 1367 ), Remouffens ( 1462 ), Roudmonffens ( 1584) and Remaufens (1808 ). The place name is derived from the Burgundian personal names Hrômulf and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Hrômulf.

In the Middle Ages Remaufens belonged first to rule Fruence. As these 1296 came under the direct rule of the House of Savoy, reached the village as a fief to the Lords of Bossonnens. 1513 came Remaufens under the rule of Freiburg and was in 1536 assigned to the area of ​​the later Bailiwick of Châtel -Saint- Denis. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the then District Châtel -Saint -Denis, before it was incorporated in 1848 in the District Veveyse. In the years 1896 and 1910 many houses were severely affected in the village fires.

Attractions

The Chapel of Saint- Maurice was built in 1416. After Remaufens was in 1835 became a separate parish (formerly belonging to the parish Attalens ), 1843, the new parish church was dedicated.
