Remigius of Rouen

Remigius of Rouen († 771 ) was an illegitimate son of Charles Martel from an unknown woman.

The monk of Fleury Adrevald reported in its written shortly after 867 Miracula Sancti St. Benedict, Pepin the Short has his half-brother Remigius commissioned in the year 750/751 in order to bring the relics of St. Benedict of Nursia back to the Abbey of Montecassino. In the year 755 he was appointed Bishop of Rouen, which he remained until 771. In the year 760 he was sent to the Lombard king Desiderius and the Pope Paul. On his return he had Simeo in the wake, one of the leaders of the Roman church singer school, which it charged with the education of his monks. As Simeo but was called back to Rome, he had afterwards send so that they could complete their training his monks. The last appearance of the Bishop Remigius testified took place at the Synod of Attigny in 762, which led to the prayer covenant of Attigny.

The Annales Mosellani reporting the death of Remigius et Bernehardus in the year 787, the specification is considered as an error regarding Remigius, considers the year 771 as the year of death of Remigius.
