Remote Terminal Unit

As a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU, German Remote Terminal) is called a regular or technical control technical instrument for remote control. It is used for process technology, power transmission, power distribution and power generation, where you can monitor and / or control remotely from a control room or far away from the center of certain processes.

The communication between the control center and the RTU via pilot wire or wirelessly. For the transmission of control data on a power line a so-called power line carrier (PLC) is used. In recent times PLC is being replaced by the transmission of data in a built- in earth wire of a high- voltage line optical fiber. This allows a far higher transmission capacity.
