Rémuzat

Rémuzat is a commune with 330 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the area Baronnies de Provence, part of the Drôme Provençale and the Southeast French Rhône-Alpes region. It is located left of the Rhone near Nyons, approximately in the middle between Montelimar and Gap. Due to their natural and urban beauty, she is one of the popular destinations in the region.

Geography

Rémuzat extends along the left bank of the river Oule, near its confluence with the Eygues, in the midst of extensive plum tree groves. Previously there was the inhabited center on the right Oule bank, at the foot of the Massif Caire. There still find architectural remnants and the Romanesque church of St. Michel.

Rémuzat located 28 kilometers east of Nyons and 9 km south of La Motte- Chalancon.

The surrounding communities are Saint-May, Cornillac and Pelonne.

History

As an old settlement core of the Barony of Mévouillon the first place was under the abbey Bodon and later the Abbey of Ile Barbe. 1305, the Town of Raymond V. Baron and the Abbot of Ile Barbe, Charles II, Duke of Provence and King of Sicily was sold. It belonged to since Oule - feudal and stood up to the French Revolution the government of Provence, the Vicariate of Sisteron and Parliament of Aix -en- Provence. In July 1790 was appointed by law to the municipality of the Drôme Provençale, and with the administrative reorganization of the Year VIII ( 1797) to the capital of the canton.

  • Chapel Saint- Michel: modest Romanesque building of the 13th century; striking is the Gallo- Roman architrave which has a frieze with Corinthian foliage.

Personalities

  • Lucien Van Damme (1901-1989), born in Belgium, a priest who was transferred because of health problems in the region of Préalpes du Sud. As a pastor of Rémuzat for more than 60 years ( 1928-1989 ) he wrote about his church numerous articles and published several books: Le château de Cornillon, 1968
