Renaldo Benson

Renaldo " Obie " Benson ( born June 14, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, † July 1, 2005 in Detroit ) was an American soul and R & B singer. Benson was known as a tenor voice of the Motown band Four Tops, with whom he celebrated numerous international hits, especially in the 1960s.

In addition to the success with his band Benson also worked as a songwriter for Motown. From his pen, among others, the classic What's Going On by Marvin Gaye from the year 1971.

Benson died on 1 July 2005 at age 69 years from lung cancer. He left behind two daughters. After Benson's death and the death of Levi Stubbs in October 2008 is still only a founding member of the group, Abdul " Duke " Fakir, alive. Already in 1997, Lawrence Payton died of cancer, he was replaced by Theo Peoples.
