Renaldo Nehemiah

Renaldo Nehemiah ( born March 24, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey ) is a former American track and field athlete. Nehemiah was the early 1980s, the world's best 110 -meter hurdles sprinter. He improved within just two years, the world record three times by a total of 28 hundredths of a second, undercutting it the first 13 seconds. Since then, the world record was matched only four more times by a total of 6 hundredths of a second in over thirty years.

He remained there but fails to provide its unique position at the Olympic Games or World Championships in Athletics to the test.

Career

His career began when he for the University of Maryland won in 1978 and 1979, the U.S. university championships in indoor and outdoor. In 1979, he improved the world record twice, first at 13.16 s, then s 13.00 1981 he was the first man who ran the 110 -meter hurdles under 13 seconds. With 12.93 s he presented on 19 August 1981 in Zurich a world record, which should be offered only in 1989 by Roger Kingdom.

He was the big favorite for the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 by his second world record. The Olympic boycott the USA then provided, however, that he was not allowed to compete for the Olympic gold medal. In the same year he lost an advertising contract with a sports shoe company the amateur status. At this time this is still prevented participation in the Olympic Games, so he later could not participate in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Without prospects for a return to the U.S. Olympic team in 1982, he signed a professional contract as a football player with the San Francisco 49ers. He played three years in the NFL. In 1984, he was able to win with the team from San Francisco to the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl XIX, the Miami Dolphins were beaten with 38:16.

In 1986 he returned again back to athletics. He managed to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in 1991. However, due to an injury he could not compete. He finished after his sports career.

After the career

Today Nehemiah works as a sports manager of athletes and has among others the vice-champion of 2005 on 400 -meter hurdles, James Carter, under contract.

Honors

Nehemiah was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Athletics 1997.
