Renault 3

The Renault 3 - short R3 - was an automobile model that was sold by the French manufacturer Renault between September 1961 and August 1962. It was the economy version of the successful model Renault 4 With its spartan features of R3 was designed especially for the needs of authorities.

But as the sales fell short of expectations, the production to only 2571 copies has been set. In Germany, the R3 was offered without an independent label as a cheap version of the R4.

Differences to R4

The body was identical to that of the R4, lacked only the third side windows between C- and D-pillar. The car had neither chrome trim even an electric fan heater. Was built only a four-cylinder in-line engine with 603 cc displacement and 23 hp (17 kW). The car in France was placed in the control class 3 Due to the reduced displacement, which was reflected in the model designation R3. Probably the car was only offered in the color light gray.
