As the first car ever the Laguna II received a smartcard instead of a conventional key. This card was in the versions Keyless Drive and Keyless Entry & Drive. The former had one button each for manual locking and unlocking of the vehicle. The variant Keyless Entry & Drive with three buttons ( extra charge, extra, standard from the variant Privilege ) had in addition an automatic mode. Was this active and approached the driver with the smart card to the vehicle, the smart card has been detected by the vehicle. Touching a door handle, the car was unlocked automatically (sensor in the handle recess ). Took off the driver from the vehicle, so it was locked again automatically. To start the engine but had to put (release the steering column lock and disable the immobilizer) and a separate Start-/Stoppknopf be pressed in both variants the card into the reader in the center console.
