History of development

One of the main inspirations for the design of the Renault Twingo was about ten years older prototype Beskid 106 of the Polish manufacturer FSM, which should replace the FSM then manufactured in Fiat license microcars 126p. Designed by Polish designer Krzysztof Meissner Beskid 106 had a then new mono -box concept of space, which had been aerodynamically optimized. FSM or their design firm Bosmal had let the Beskid design indeed protect, but since the car did not go into production and the patents for financial reasons could not be extended, Renault took over the concept.

In October 1992, Renault presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris, designed by Patrick le Quément Twingo before, which was offered with its unusual design and interior concept without significant changes in almost 15 years.

The name is an invented word Twingo Copywriter Manfred Gotta. The name is supposed to sound cheerful and original. Renault Twingo wants to unite the two (English twin) types of vehicles ( small cars and minivans ).
