Geography

Geographical Location

Renchen Located in the foothills of the northern Black Forest at the output of Renchtal in the Upper Rhine Valley.

Neighboring communities

The city is bordered to the north by the city Achern, to the east by Oberkirch, to the south by the municipality Appenweier, and in the extreme northwest of the city Rheinau.

Boroughs

The city Renchen consists of the districts Erlach (about 900 inhabitants), Renchen and Ulm (about 1850 inhabitants). The neighborhoods are physically identical to the previously independent municipalities of the same name. The official designation of the districts Erlach and Ulm is done by preceding the name of the city and connected with a hyphen adjusted the name of the respective district. In these two districts villages are established in terms of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code, each with its own mayor and Ortschaftsrat as its chairman. In the two towns are local administrative bodies under the names of local government Ulm and local government Erlach. All three neighborhoods are nonetheless a residential district within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code, respectively. For district Erlach Erlach heard the village. For district Renchen Renchen include the city and the community part Maiwald. For district Ulm include the village of Ulm, the tines Kaier, piston stop and Reier Bach and the homestead Rothof. In Erlach district lie the deserted villages in Oberhof and Zöller farms, on which points only one field name, and Walhofen. In Renchen district the waste places Brunn Hurst, lumberyard, Horn Mayrhofen are (but possibly renamed), Lohern, worm farms and Schwenzelshöfen, which may have been renamed. The village courts arms went up in Ulm.

Erlach won in 2006 at the Wettberweb "Our village is beautiful " a silver medal and a special prize. Ulm has its own brewery.

History

Renchen was first mentioned in 1115. 1326 was granted the city rights Renchen. Due to the devastation of the Thirty Years' War the place was, however, sunk into insignificance and the city lost rights. 1838 Renchen was told by the Grand Duke of Baden to town again, lost the right to name the city, but by the new German church order in 1935 for a second time. 1950 was granted the city rights for the third time because of its historical past Renchen.

By 1973 Renchen belonged to the district of Kehl. Erlach and Ulm included, however, the district Offenburg. Upon the dissolution of the two circles, the entire area fell to the newly formed Ortenaukreis. On January 1, 1975, the two were incorporated previously independent municipalities Erlach and Ulm.

In the center of Renchen there is a church of Friedrich Weinbrenner, built in 1817 as unadorned, geometrically structured building in the style of classicism.
