Rendsburg Loop

The Rendsburger loop is subsequent to the Rendsburg High Bridge circuit terminal loop over the railway line Neumünster -Flensburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Formation

The first historic crossing of the North Sea-Baltic Canal, a swing bridge had to be replaced due to its broadening to 1913. In their place a high bridge to be built with a vertical clearance of 50 meters. This corresponded to the specifications for bridges over the North Sea-Baltic Canal. At the same time, the existing Rendsburg station should continue to be used. The station was, however, too close to the channel in order to connect it at the prescribed height for the high bridge directly to this can. Therefore, an embankment was constructed in the form of a loop at the north end of the bridge from 1911 to 1913. About him are trains that come from the south to Rendsburg, first a 360 ° turn before they retract after passing under the viaduct into the station. Conversely get trains from the north after the departure from the Rendsburg railway station on the loop on the high bridge to cross the North Sea-Baltic Canal. The height gain arising through this 4.5km-long circuit terminal loop is 42 meters.

District loop

The resulting loop in the district of Rendsburg also named loop.
