René Barjavel

René Barjavel ( born January 24, 1911 in Nyons, † November 24, 1985 in Paris) was a French author, journalist and critic, who was believed to be the inventor of the grandfather paradox. He became famous mainly as a science fiction author. His works often deal with the demise of a civilization due to unjustified confidence in the technology, but also the duration of love.

Life

After graduation worked Barjavel et al as agricultural workers, bank employee, agent and journalist before he made as a writer of screenplays for films career from 1947 (eg, Don Camillo, The Adventures of Till Ulenspiegel, The Case of Dr. Laurent, the poor and Highway to Heaven ).

Barjavel died in 1985 and was buried beside his ancestors in the cemetery of Tarendol, opposite the Mont Ventoux. Mont Ventoux is found in several of his novels, for example, he is in Colomb de la Lune the place of a space station. Tarendol the name of the protagonist in his novel.

Work

Barjavels novels deal with topics such as the downfall of a civilization because of scientific self-indulgence and wars, or the eternal love ( Ravage, Le Grand Secret, La Nuit des temps, Une rose au paradis ). His style is poetic, dreamy and sometimes philosophical. Some of his works deal with the question of God's existence, especially La Faim du tigre. In addition, he edited the question of intergenerational equity.

In his novel Le Voyageur imprudent (1943 ) Barjavel describes probably the first time ever, the grandfather paradox: if a time traveler travels back in time and his grandfather kills before these children fathered, he can not be born for yourself why he is not in the can travel back time.
