René Berthod

René Berthod ( born February 7, 1948 in Château d'Oex ) is a retired Swiss ski racer. He was active in the 1970s as a downhill skier.

His departure career in skiing began in the 1970/71 season, in which he immediately reached two eighth places in the two races in St. Moritz. In 1978, Berthod, after various injuries, his retirement from active ski racing known.

Throughout his career, Berthod achieved five podium finishes, including four second places in the race in Val Gardena (ITA, March 15, 1972), Megeve ( FRA, February 1, 1975), Aspen (USA, March 12, 1976) and Kitzbühel (AUT, January 15, 1977). A victory in a World Cup race was granted to him by eight hundredths of a second. Overall Berthod reached 19 finishes among the top ten in the Ski World Cup. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976, he reached the twelfth place in the downhill. 1974 Berthod was Swiss champion in the downhill.

After retiring from racing, the trained chef with distinction and patented instructors worked as a representative for his ski company before 1986, the hotel Schönegg in Wengen bought, which he now performs with his life partner Sina Steiner. René Berthods nephew is the active Swiss ski racer Marc Berthod.
