René Monse

René Monse ( born September 28, 1968 in Potsdam ) is a German former heavyweight boxer.

Amateur career

René Monse was an amateur repeated GDR youth champion and last East German champion in 1989 at super heavyweight. In 1990 he participated in the World Cup tournament in Dublin in part and finished third, he failed in the semifinals of Félix Savón. In 1991, he finished in the German Championship in the heavyweight class behind Bert Teuchert second place, 1993 and 1994, he was in the super heavyweight German masters.

1994 won Monse the chemistry Cup and the World Military Championship in Tunis, at the World Cup in Bangkok, he finished after a final defeat against Cuban Savón second place.

In 1995 Monse participated in the Amateur World Championships in Berlin in part, subject to the semi-finals but against Vitali Klitschko and was third. In the military world championship in 1995 in Rome, he also took a third place, he lost there in the semifinal against the Russians Alexei Lesin.

Another third place succeeded in the 1996 European Championships in Vejle. A blow by Paolo Vidoz after broadcast in the quarterfinals Monse went down. Although Vidoz was disqualified and Monse declared the winner, but Monse was refused on the advice of the ring physician to participate in the semi-final against Lesin. In that year, Monse also adopted for Germany in the Olympic Games in Atlanta, failed in the quarterfinals, however, one more time to Lesin.

Professional

1997 Professional and stood by the SES Boxteam in his hometown of Magdeburg under contract, his coach was Werner Kirsch.

In 2000 he won after beating Willi Fischer, the International German Championship in the heavyweight division. He is best known, however, in the two battles for the European Championship against Luan Krasniqi. In the first meeting on 5 January 2002, although he succeeded in the second round a rainfall, yet he finally lost the battle just on points. In the second match on 31 July 2004 he lost early when his corner at the start of the seventh round, threw in the towel. Then Monse did not return to the ring.

Monse is married and has a child from current and two children from his first marriage. Today, he works for a large insurance agency with its own office in Magdeburg. His son Steven Monse 's Basketball U20 national team and is in the squad of the German Basketball Champion 2011, the Brose Baskets Bamberg.
