René Pottier

René Pottier ( born June 5, 1879 in Moret -sur -Loing, † January 25, 1907 in Levallois -Perret ) was a French cyclist.

He is considered the first mountain specialist of the Tour de France. On the Ballon d'Alsace in the Vosges is a memorial plaque to Pottier. During his Tour victory in 1906, he also won five stages, one after the other four.

In January, 1907, only six months after his Tour triumph to Pottier took his own life.
