René Schützenberger

René Schützenberger ( born July 29, 1860 in Mulhouse in Upper Alsace, † December 31, 1916 in Paris) was a French painter.

Life

He came from an Alsatian family which created the eponymous brewery Schützenberger. His father was the famous chemist Paul Schützenberger (1829-1897); his cousin was the painter Louis -Frédéric Schützenberger ( 1825-1903 ). René Schützenberger studied with Jean -Paul Laurens painting at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1891 he exhibited at the 1881 Salon des artistes founded in Paris français. From 1902 his works were appraised to be held on an annual Salon des Independants, and from 1907 he was a member of Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He was honored in 1897 by the Salon des artistes français in 1900 and at the Paris World Exhibition of 1900.

Schützenberger created mainly female nudes, but also portraits, genre paintings and landscapes. His work is influenced by Post-Impressionism and of the artist group the Nabis.
