René Wheeler
René Wheeler ( born February 8, 1912 in Paris, France; † 11 December 2000 Équemauville ) was a French dialogue and screenwriter and director.
Life and work
Wheeler had in the 1920s, the Collège de Pontoise visited before he began writing during the early 1930s. In 1936, he joined the film, first as an actor ( " MOUTONNET ", 1936), then pretty soon as a dialogue writer and screenwriter who co-authored. His first works were for films the actor Noël- Noël, whom he had met on his debut before the camera.
After the war, Wheeler made a name for manuscripts thematically very different, commercially extremely successful entertainment films, including the comedy Tatis Marksmen, the costume and adventure piece Fanfan, the hussar and the burglar - crime classic Rififi. On the last Laurel and Hardy film Atoll K, he was involved as one of several screenwriters. For his screenplay participation in The Nightingale cage Wheeler was due to the war with several years' delay nominated for an Oscar.
Between 1949 and 1959, tried the Paris and three times as a director; its sometimes quite ambitious stories, however, were only moderately successful. Since the 60s, René Wheeler focused on working for television and wrote the screenplays ' L' Inspecteur Leclerc ',' Les compagnons de Jehu ',' L' enfance de Thomas Edison ',' Des oiseaux sur la branche 'and' Marie Curie ' as well as numerous screenplay adaptations, including the 1980 miniseries The mysteries of Paris (Les mystères de Paris). René Wheeler has also for the theater ( the play Il pleut bergère ) written, as a director, he sat with the 13teiligen series L' éventail of Seville his own screenplays to. In 1974 he published in collaboration with co-authors the novel La maison des bois.
Wheeler was 1959-1963 as president of the professional organization of the writers of France, the Syndicat des scénaristes before.
