Renesse

Renesse is a Dutch seaside resort with 1,583 inhabitants ( January 2008) on the North Sea coast. It is located on the island of Schouwen- Duiveland in the province of Zeeland and belongs politically to the municipality Schouwen- Duiveland. Nearby are the towns of Renesse also Zierikzee, Bruinisse, Middelburg and Veere.

Tourism

Renesse is a popular holiday and excursion destination. The place has a large number of campsites, inns and hotels that are available year round, but especially well attended during the summer months. The number of German tourists has risen steadily in recent years, particularly from the Rhineland and the Ruhr many visitors find their way into the otherwise rather contemplative Renesse. The sprawling area can be easily explored by bike or on foot.

By 2010 the town was at Pentecost by - visited young tourists the night into day in the streets of Renesse - especially German. There was camped wild, despite strict prohibitions and corresponding penalties, because the accommodations were not sufficient to give the masses a property. Since the year 2011, no more events in the village of Renesse on Pentecost weekend but instead. Also Pentecost 2013 there will be no corresponding Renesse celebrations.

Along the beach there are several beach pavilions, where food, drinks and beach equipment are available. Also paid parking is available directly on the dunes. History

Renesse was first mentioned in 1267. The town's name probably comes from the terms Rietnisse ( overgrown with reeds, flat land ) or Reenisse (flat, crossed by ditches country). The site is designed as a ring around the village James church in the village center. At that time there were few direct paths through the dunes to the beach, the most important of these roads was the so-called Laône, which came along by the place where in 1856 an iron lighthouse was built. The lighthouse was demolished in 1910, the former lighthouse keeper's cottage, the Zeerust, still serves as a cozy restaurant and a popular tourist destination.

Attractions

Besides James Church, which is already visible from a distance, the historic castle Moermond located at the eastern edge. This could be visited before restoration, but is now owned by a private foundation and is no longer publicly available.

Transferium

Near the town center there is a large parking lot for 900 vehicles. From here, start buses and horse-drawn carriages belonging to the so-called Transferium. Parking at the park is free, in the summer the place is guarded. The Transferium travels different routes which pass on hotels, campsites and dune crossings. Furthermore, there is the beach Express, which is not only equipped with a lift for wheelchairs, but also directly controls the dune crossings. Evening and night train leaving the Night Express, which connects between the camp and the town center of Renesse. The Night Express is not free, while all the other rides are free.
