The Rentschler Field is a stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, in the northeastern United States. The main user is the American football team of the University of Connecticut, the UConn Huskies from the NCAA - American Athletic Conference. The facility replaced the old Memorial Stadium in Storrs as a venue, the 1953 to 2002 was the home of the Huskies.

History

The stadium, which is owned by the State of Connecticut, on the site of the eponymous airport Rentschler Field built (1933 to 1999) from November 2000 to the summer of 2003. The namesake was the aviation engineer Frederick Brant Rentschler. Following closure of the airport, the company United Technologies Corporation donated a plot of 75 acres ( 300,000 square feet) in the state of Connecticut for construction of the stadium. Out of gratitude the old name Rentschler Field was retained for the sports facility.

On 20 October 2000, the foundation stone for the double-decker stadium construction in November 2000 and was laid begun. Upon completion in summer 2003, the venue was passed on 29 July 2003 with the cutting of the ribbon of his determination. In addition to American football, the stadium is also designed among others for football, lacrosse, rugby and other events.

The stadium offers the ranks uncovered spaces for 40,000 visitors. The horseshoe-shaped upper part is open on the west side. There the Daktronics video scoreboard is. In the main stand to the south the 38 luxury lodges (called skyboxes ) attached. A range of 1,300 inside and 4,000 club seats in the open air part of the lodge area. Even the commentators and press seats are under construction on the Südrang. Inside the stadium, a total of 480 toilets and urinals are distributed.

Events

First event was the opening of the multi-sport event State Games of America 2003. UConn Huskies were in their new home on 30 August 2003 to celebrate a 34:10 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. The U.S. women 's national soccer team played on 1 August 2004 their last match before the Olympic football tournament 2004 at Rentschler Field against China and won 3-1 gates.

There have been held several concerts in the Rentschler Field. The first artist was the rock musician Bruce Springsteen with the E Street Band, which occurred on 16 and 18 September 2003 60,000 visitors. On their reunion tour, the band The Police Station 2007 was in the stadium of East Hartford on July 31.

The Rentschler Field was one of 13 stages of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013.
