Renzo Piano

Renzo Piano ( born 14 September 1937 in Genoa ) is an Italian architect and senator for life.

Life

Piano grew up in a family of builders. His passion for architecture, he owes his father.

Renzo Piano studied from 1962 to 1964 at the University of Florence and received his diploma from the Milan Polytechnic in 1964. From 1965 to 1968 he worked there as a lecturer. His father's and brother's support enabled him to begin the study of materials and technologies immediately after graduation. On study trips to the United Kingdom and the United States, he met Louis I. Kahn know. Piano made in the renowned architectural firm of Kahn in Philadelphia an internship.

Through his teaching at the Polytechnic and at the Architectural Association School in London Renzo Piano came in closer contact with Richard Rogers. Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers Paris founded in a shared office, after they had won the competition for the Centre Pompidou in Paris ( 1971-1977 ).

Precursor to the Pompidou Centre was the 1973 completed office building by B & B Italia. In 1977, Renzo Piano with the engineer Peter Rice a joint office with the name " Piano & Rice ". They led the office to Rice's death in 1993. Were created works such as the district laboratory for urban renewal in Otranto (1979 ) and the Museum of the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas ( 1981-1986 ). Renzo Piano learned a lot from his good friend Peter Rice. Beginning of the 1980s the studio in a building workshop was transformed with offices in Paris and Genoa. The new name should especially emphasize the teamwork nature of the common work.

In Berlin Piano was responsible, inter alia, the development of part of the Potsdamer Platz and led there from time to time also has an office. For this was Renzo Piano in the planning of major projects, such as the terminal of Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan, and the transformation of the Porto Antico (Old Port ) in his hometown of Genoa involved.

His reputation as a museum architect received piano with projects such as the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas, the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen near Basel, the Tjibaou Cultural Centre in Noumea on the South Pacific island of New Caledonia, the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas, and completed in 2005, the center Paul Klee in Bern. In addition, he designed in Italy two large auditoriums: the Auditorium Paganini in Parma and the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome.

Among his recent projects on July 6, opened in 2012, The Shard, the 310- meter high skyscraper in Europe, as well as multiple jobs in New York City, including the New York Times Building and the expansion of the Pierpont Morgan Library.

He runs a studio ever in Genoa and Paris, which are united under the name " Renzo Piano Building Workshop" ( RPBW ). In RPBW architects, engineers and other specialists are involved in some cases for years together.

Renzo Piano is considered a masterpiece of structural engineering. Through the construction of numerous buildings around the globe with a wide variety of designs and materials he proves his skills in the field of building technology. In all its projects, the technology is used to animate the light to respect the environment and to allow integration into nature. Piano falls on by works in which the innovative and constructive techniques are merely the tool to make comfortable, solid and ecological building. Piano is considered to be very diverse in terms of the styles of his works. Function and significance of the buildings are very crucial for the design.

On August 30, 2013 was appointed life senator Renzo Piano from President Giorgio Napolitano.

Magda Arduino was Renzo Piano's first wife and companion of his long development. With it, Renzo Piano has three children: Carlo, Matteo and Lia. Since 1992, with the architect Renzo Piano Emilia Rossato ( Milly ) is married.
