Reo is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Pihtla ( Pihtla vald ) on the largest Estonian island of Saaremaa ( Osel German ).

Description

The village than twelve kilometers northeast of the island's capital, Kuressaare ( Kuressaare ).

The settlement was founded in the early 18th century. Since 1849 there is a separate Orthodox community in Reo. On 20 October 1873, the current temple was inaugurated with its four corner towers. It is dedicated to the Apostle Andrew. The iconostasis is from, 1888.

2010, the previously founded only in Orthodox nunnery of Ööriku was moved to Reo. This was due to property disputes. The monastery is under the Greek Orthodox Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church ( Eesti Apostlik - Õigeusu Kirik - EAÕK ).
