Repetto

Repetto is a French shoe brand in Saint- Médard- d'Excideuil, which was founded in 1947. Repetto is the market leader for ballet shoes.

History

In 1947, Rose Repetto (* 1907 in Milan, † 1984 in Paris), at the suggestion of her son Roland Petit, a dancer and choreographer of international renown, the company with a small studio in the Rue de la Paix near the Opera National de Paris. Rose Repetto ballet developed shoes that are extremely comfortable to wear for the dancers. In 1959 she opened her first boutique at number 22 rue de la Paix in Paris. Many dancers were their clients: Maurice Béjart, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov and many others. The special feature of the design of the shoes is that the soles are upside down worked and then turned. So they have a special softness. 1967 Rose Repetto moved production to Saint -Médard- d'Excideuil in the Dordogne. The shoes of Rose Repetto were known by Brigitte Bardot to a wide audience, which she wore in the film Et Dieu ... créa la femme.

After the death of the founder of the company was taken over by the American Society Esmark, which resold it in 1988, Banque populaire. In 1998, took over Jean Marc Gaucher, former head of Reebok in France, the company, which had experienced a decline for years.

The new owner managed, despite a bankruptcy in 2002 to position the company in the luxury segment and align internationally. The collaboration with well-known fashion brands such as Issey Miyake, Yoji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons contributed substantially.

The company Repetto, which in France employs 350 people, currently producing 450,000 pairs of shoes a year, which are exported to 50%.
