Replica 1

Replica I is a compatible replica of the Apple I computer, designed in 2003 by Vince Briel.

The replica also uses the MOS Technology 6502 chip and the simple interface and television connections of the original, but some newer components and a simpler board design. Thus, two microcontrollers are used, which replace the discrete transistor-transistor logic (TTL ), and some blocks are no longer available. The use of the original software has been approved by Steve Wozniak. The Replica I therefore offers both the Apple I BASIC in ROM of the original as well as an additional assembler ( assembler Krusader ) including disassembler and debugger, programmed by Ken Whose.

So far there are three of the Replica series I. The second edition integrated USB interface and a separate power supply, the third edition renounced the USB port, replacing the AVR used for image formation by a Parallax Propeller microcontroller chip. The selling price of the kit is about 160 U.S. dollars. Currently Briel working on an expansion module that will contain a CompactFlash interface and a debug board.

2006 Another Apple -1 replica was presented by Franz Achatz and San Bergmans, the A -ONE.
