Republic of Benin (1967)

The Republic of Benin was a existing for one day only state in the Midwest of today's Nigeria.

During the secession of Biafra region of Nigeria in 1967, there was also tension in the area around Benin City. On 9 August 1967, the area was occupied by troops of Biafra. Albert Nwazu Okonkwo was competent military administrator of Biafra for the region.

On 19 September of the same year was morning, the "Republic of Benin " was declared at 7.00 clock in the historical style of the traditional kingdom of Benin Benin City as its capital. It has not been recognized internationally. The very next day around 13:00 clock the young republic was again occupied by the Nigerian military so I stopped to exist.
